Minnesota Tax Fairness Survey information

Below is a link to the most recent Minnesota Department of Revenue Tax Fairness Survey.

I have spoken with Cheryl Powers from The Research Edge, LLC, who conducted the survey for the State of Minnesota. She has received permission from the State of Minnesota to discuss the survey results and methodology with us and is available for a conference call in August. She noted that the cost to conduct a similar survey to the one done for the State of Minnesota would cost between $25,000 and $35,000 (not currently in the CWI Budget).

The State of Minnesota, which pays for the survey, has commissioned this survey every two years since 2001 and a survey will be done this year as well.

Thank you- Meeting Wrap Up

TO: CWI Economic Development Committee

Thank you to all who participated yesterday; there were a lot of good ideas and guidance shared.

Over the next two weeks I will make the changes the committee recommended and track down and share the additional research that was requested. To facilitate the sharing of information I created a CWI blog where I will post the requested research and members can post their information and further vet the information. It is at http://competitivewisconsin.blogspot.com/. If you noted at the meeting today you were going to share additional research or information with me, please forward or post over the next two weeks so it can be incorporated into the final “draft” document.

The Committee decided that our next meeting will be on Tuesday, August 14th at 3:30 p.m. via conference call. You will receive the updated document well in advance of that meeting to give you time to read and review. During that conference call we would like to accomplish the following;

  1. Make any additional changes that were missed from the meeting yesterday
  2. Prioritize the goals/strategies
  3. Vote the economic development/tax portion of the package on to the executive committee for final consideration.

At the September 5th Executive Committee meeting, the Executive Committee, as it does with all other CWI Resolutions, will review the economic development package along with the other committee packages and vote to forward that entire “Competitive Mandate” document onto the entire Board for consideration at our September 19th Board of Directors meeting.

If you have any comments or questions, as always please feel free to contact me.

Best,

Tony
